Medicine for the Greater Good presents to you the 2018 MGG Symposium: Beyond the Hospital Walls
The 2018 MGG Symposium “Beyond the Hospital Walls” focuses on the importance of community outreach in regards to socioeconomic disparities. Our mission as an organization is to bridge the gap between the community and healthcare, and we want to show you just how we are doing that. The symposium this year will show you the importance of partnerships and initiatives that MGG has taken on to fight socioeconomic disparities in East Baltimore and why they are a stepping stone towards equitable healthcare.

Why Should I Attend?
The 2018 MGG Symposium is more than just lengthy lectures about public health – it is a chance to engage with your peers, eat food, discuss population health and engage with the community in a way that could effect even your closest neighbors! Our symposium is jam packed full of events and features keynote speaker Dr. Camara Jones, who will be joining us to discuss how institutional racism impacts healthcare disparities. Specifically, Dr. Jones will recognize the historical underpinnings between racial tensions in Baltimore City as it relates to health care. Additionally, poster presentations will be given by students and residents who have been involved in taking the hospital beyond the hospital walls. The event will culminate in a panel discussion about what a healthy Baltimore looks like. The panel will be multi-disciplinary including community members, faith-based leaders, medical service providers and law enforcement.
Note that both breakfast and lunch will be served during the course of the day.
